1. You will analyze the probability of being drafted onto a team as a rookie.

2. You will compare the salaries for rookies and veteran players.

3. You will analyze the weights of all of the rookies in order to see whether or not you could physically compete.

4. You will find the college division that would give you the best chances of being drafted.

5. You will convince your parents that you are making the right decision in your career choice.

Math Objectives:
Maryland Core Learning Goals
Indicator 3.1.2 The student will use the measures of central tendency and/or variability to make informed conclusions.
Assessment Limits:
  • Measures of central tendency include mean, median, and mode.
  • Measures of variability include range, interquartile range, and quartiles.
  • Data may be displayed in a variety of representations which may include: frequency tables, box and whisker plots, and other displays.
Indicator 3.2.1 The student will make informed decisions and predictions based upon the results of simulations and data from research.

Indicator 3.1.3 The student will calculate theoretical probability or use simulations or statistical inference from data to estimate the probability of an event.

Common core standards:
S.ID.2 Use statistics appropriate to the shape of the data distribution to compare center (median, mean) and spread (interquartile range, standard deviation) of two or more different data sets.
S.ID.3 Interpret differences in shape, center, and spread in the context of the data sets, accounting for possible effects of extreme data points (outliers).

Technology Objective:
Research and Information Fluency
Students apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information.
a. Plan strategies to guide inquiry
b. Locate, organize, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and ethically use information from a variety of sources and media
c. Evaluate and select information sources and digital tools based on the appropriateness to specific tasks
d. Process data and report results
